Survey Results Analysis

We have only received 15 results for our survey however to know and get ideas of how we want our music video to be we need to collect the results and analyse them. We collected to results and below they are shown if different ways.

What gender are you?

How old are you?

What is your favourite music video and why?

All the answers we got were very helpful apart from the one 'I like turtles'. A lot of the videos match the ones in which we studied in '100 greatest music videos'. Also there is a wide variety of different songs and genres.

How often do you watch music videos in a week?

Due to new technologies such as Ipods, it is now very unlikely for people to actually watch the music videos. This is shown in the results we collected as the majority of answers were placed in the '0-5' band.

Would you go out your way to watch a music video?

This is a good response as it shows that music videos are important to a songs popularity.

On a scale of 1-10 , what would u rate the important of a music video?

These responses are mainly on the higher end of the scale which shows us that the video is very important to the song.

What is your favorite music genre?

The main response we got on our survey was 'Dance' music which isn't particularly what we wanted as we are not doing a dance song. We are doing a 'Indie' type song which classifies as 'Rock' which only got 2 responses.

What is your favorite music video style?

The main response we got was comical videos, therefore we will try to make our video funny as it is what people like. Also story-like was a popular option as well as emotional however it may be difficult to make it emotional and comical

Filming - 'Oh Me Oh My'

We did some filming today in lesson. For one of the choruses, we have 4 boys, including muself, all holding up a board with the lyrics on; Oh Me Oh My. We have also decided to go for something comical where two of us hold up the wrong boards and have to switch it around, which will look good if we edit it correctly.

Editing - Fireworks

We have edited the Fireworks footage we filmed to other week. Most of it looks really good and it can be effective in the video. However it is very abstract and we may struggle to fit it in to the music video as its nothing to do with story line.

Filming update - Fireworks

ierOn saturday night me and Beth attended a firework party. We decided to film the fireworks as because our video is abstract and random with different ideas, and it may work well if we apply it correctly to our music video. Daniel come up with a good idea, where the fireworks explode to say 'Oh me Oh my'. This may be difficult to do however if we can find the tools to edit it, it would look really good.

More ideas!

We have come up with another idea for the music video, which is a storyline. Due to the song lyrics, we have agreed we maybe need to include a love story. Our idea is sort of like this which see's a boy and a girl split up, and the boy having pretty bad memories of it, and maybe cannot forget her.

This is the filming schedule in which we have planned to carry out. We will take into consideration that various events/obstacles will occur so we may have to change the schedule if needed.

Survey Monkey Update

Unfortunately we only have 5 responses for our survey which is nowhere near the amount needed to analyse the results and come to conclusions. Therefore we will continue to post the survey on facebook and  I will also try Twitter and get friends and family to complete the survey to boost up the number of responses.

Montage of Music Video Settings

Mood Board

I have created a Mood Board to show, in picture form, the different ideas I get from listening to 'Oh me Oh my' by the 99's.

What is a Digipak?

As part of our coursework, we must also create our own digipak. A digipak is a case in which the CD will go in. On a digipak, we muct include;
  • Six panels
  • A spine with the artist and album name
  • Barcode/ Price
  • Tracklist
  • Disk impression

Survey Monkey - Audience research

As a group, we have set up an account on survey monkey and we are going to make a survey for people to complete. We are doing this for audience research to find out what type of music video to make to attract the correct audience.

We are going to ask 10 questions:
1. What gender are you?
2. How old are you?
3. What is your favourite music video?
4. Why is this?
5. How often do you watch music channels?
6. Would you go out of your way to watch a music video on YouTube?
7. How important is a music video in promoting a song or artist?
8. What is your favourite music genre?
9. What is your favourite music video genre?
10. In your own opinion what makes a good music video?

Change in our group

Unfortunately Joe Barwick has decided to quit sixth form and therefore is not in our media class anymore. This means our group has been cut down to three with just Me, Beth and Dan. We wish Joe all the best in future and support his decision as he wasn't happy.
