Evaluation Question 3 - What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Receiving audience feedback is very important as it will provide us information on whether we achieved what we intended to create, as well as aspects of our products in which could have been improved. We used different methods to gather opinions on our music video. We gave the audience different ways to share there opinions, and therefore this gave us more feedback to analyse, meaning our overall results were more accurate.

Focus group
We held a focus group in class, where was asked 25 people to write on a yellow post stick note one positive of our music video and one negative which we could have improved.

A lot of the negative responses we got were similar to each other which helped us as we knew specifically which bits of the video could have been improved. Below I have created a Wordle which shows which responses were more frequent than others.

 Although some people were struggling to think of a negative of the music video, we did get a fair amount of responses. The most popular answer we received was that we didn't use enough variety in the shots we used for the band. Also the standard of acting is something in which people commented on, which made us think we may should have used drama students like we did in the thriller... although I thought I was good :-)

The main response we got back from the focus group was that the split screen switch over was the best part of the video. This pleased us as we have used that in our digipak and magazine advert as well. Another aspect of the video people seemed to like was the humour used. 

The Survey

In addition we created a online survey for people to create on surveymonkey.com. We tried to get as many people that were not involved in the focus group to fill out the survey to receive a variety of results. We created 8 questions for people to answer. 

1. What gender are you?

We felt this question was important to get an idea of which gender was most likely to watch our video. We expected it the be mainly male and as you can see in the graph below this was true with 13 males to 7 females. These results may not be 100% accurate as only 20 people were asked, however it is something to go. 

2. How old are you?

We asked this question to find out if our predicted target audience of 16 to 21 year old's was correct. As you can see from the graph, it was indeed correct with most of the responses being from 16 - 21 year old's. 

3. What rating would you give our video out of 10? (10 being best)

We were very pleased to discover that the main response given was actually 10/10 with 30% of the people giving us that score. Also very pleasing was that not one person of the 20 rated the video below 7, showing the people who responded and were not within the target audience also enjoyed it. 

4. What genre would you consider our music video to be?

We created this question to find out if the audience agreed with the genres we considered our video to be. We believed our video to be mainly comedy with a storyline. These were the two responses we got back as you can see in the pie chart below. Romance and emotion also were ticked which we did not intend the music video to be like, however we can understand why some may get emotional and think its a romance as its about an ending relationship.

5. How would you rate the lip syncing in the video? (10 being best)

The response we got for this question was very good as no one rated it below average.

6. How would you rate the acting?

We expected to get negative responses for this question as in the focus group a lot of people said the standard of acting could have been improved. However we received very similar responses to those of the lip syncing which we were pleased about.

7. Can you name any improvements we could make?

We asked participants of the survey to consider what improvements we could make to the video to improve it. It was great to find that the most popular response was that they could not think of any changes, however things which were mentioned included the storyline, mise en scene, and lip syncing, along with others shown below;

8. Would you consider the locations used to be appropriate?

The responses were main successful, however one person replied that the settings were not appropriate. We made a mistake here as we should of asked why they thought this. 

Overall analysis

Overall we feel very pleased with the results we received and the criticism we did get back was only constructive. We managed to give the impression through the video which we aimed to.
